The Big 3-OH!

I’m turning 30 soon. As I get close to my 29th birthday, I am getting closer to a book that I picked up in my early 20′s called Swim Naked, Defy Gravity & 99 Other Essential Things to Accomplish Before Turning 30. Years ago I thought it would be fun to try to do everything on their list and got started on it
So far I have completed 76 out of the 101-so 25 left to go…
The most recent one accomplished was this past weekend at a festival called Bele Chere in Asheville, NC. I came across a palm reader and since my book says “Have Your Fortune Told”, I decided now was as good of a time as any. The fortune teller proceeded to tell me a few things about past me, me now, and future me. Here are a few things he said:
#1″You are very passionate and very romantic.”
Isn’t everyone? Everyone wants to believe they could steal anyone’s heart! I once thought I could woo a guy I thought I couldn’t live without. It was love at first sight and I wanted nothing more but to be with him. Turns out he did NOT want me and I never thought I’d ever get over him! But according to this fortune teller, it couldn’t have been because I wasn’t passionate and romantic! I still say there must have been something wrong with HIM, not me ![]()
#2) “You will get married very, very soon. In fact, the man you are to marry is already in your life. And you will be with this man for life. What a rare thing!”
Uh…what? Perhaps this fortune teller didn’t realize I don’t want to get married again. I’m not saying it will never ever happen, but I really don’t want to. Too much paperwork. And for life? This gypsy is hoping that he can tell this to people so they will stick to the one they’re with. “But we can’t get divorced! That gypsy guy I paid $8 to read my palm told me it was for life! FOR LIFE!”
#3) “You will have 2 children. Yes, 2 children in all.”
Well, I was going to go ahead and tell him I already have one daughter, but felt he should have known. So these two sentences are a little contradictory. Either I will have 2 to make 3, or I will have 2 in all. Although statistics show I could have 1.5 children.
#4) “You have had a horrible, terrible childhood, but you are way beyond that and will live a long life.”
Yes. Wow. How did he know about my past? This guy is good! However, if I die tomorrow I’m going to have my family sue this guy.
#5) “You are such a caring person! You should definitely be a teacher! The absolute best career for you is a teacher! Definitely a teacher!”
If he would have said teacher one more time…!!! I am a teacher. I am a parent, therefore I am a teacher. What I am confused about is what kind of teacher he was meaning. Surely not a teacher of 30 kids in a classroom! If so, obviously he knows nothing of my patience…or lack thereof. Let’s just hope I’m not one of those people who teaches what NOT to do!
#6) “You are extremely creative! Wow! Looks like you should definitely open a store to sell your creations!”
Hmmm…this one was so awesome! I am indeed an artist who loves to create! I can be very very creative when I put my mind to it! I’ll forget the fact that I was attending Bele Chere, known for bringing a ton of artists into the area and everyone he talked to was either an established artist or an inspiring artist.
#7) “You will experience a huge change in your life, somewhere around 35 or 40. This will be a very positive change!”
I smiled at this. A positive life change. Around 40 I believe everyone makes changes. It’s a huge wake up call that you’re getting older! I wonder if I’ll buy a sports car and date a younger man? Wait, I won’t be able to do the latter-I’ll be married to some guy for life.
I got up from the table from this revealing fortune reading filled with glee. Honestly, life is what you make it. I don’t believe in these things, but it’s always fun to hear who people think you are and how they think your life will turn out.
The next person sat down. And I swear this insightful man said, “You are very romantic!” And about an hour later I ran into him walking around the festival double fisting 2 beers. I thought I smelled something hoppy on his breath.
Oh well. Another checkmark for my book

LoL, I’m still laughing from reading your post. Hilarious and insightful on your part. You didn’t tell me you were getting married. Are you keeping secrets?
I loved it when you said that he told you that you were a creative person and then you commented, that you were both at an arts festival. Ha! But you know, some people really wouldn’t have picked up on that. Too funny, however, I think I did detect a hint of sarcasm on a couple of your comments, but I’m not sure…
I know when we talked the other day, I mentioned this guy Darren Brown. He is EXCELLENT at what he does. I’ve never seen a more skilled person. One of his many talents is doing psychic readings on people. He has tons of videos on YouTube, so just block out the next couple days because if you’re like me, you’ll do nothing but watch him. Here is a clip from his TV show doing readings on people: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=btP_vy5cQq4

That is so funny! I’d like to get a copy of his reading to see how much it relates to me. Bet it does
I always found John Edward to be interesting. It’s funny to hear people after his Crossing Over show say how exact the reading was. “There WAS someone in their family whose name rhymed with Jan or started with a ‘J’ who loved dancing and always joked around and has come through John Edward to tell us how much she still loves us! That would be Fran! Fran always did! And Fran’s middle initial was J! Oh my god! We still love you too, Fran!” LOL

I found an example of John Edward in case you haven’t seen it:

Oh yes, I’m very familiar with John Edward. He too is very good at what he does. I’ve said about him, either he’s the real thing or he’s the best cold reader I’ve ever seen. I believe he was first on the Sci-Fi channel many moons ago.
I went to see him in person in Tampa, FL one time and I got a couple friends to go that also liked watching him. There was an energy in the room, but it wasn’t psychic or from souls that have passed over. It was from the people in the room that were so desperate, depressed, needy, and mournful. It was sad to see people so wanting to believe in something to make them feel better.
Before he started, one of the things that John said was, “Please, no electronic equipment such as tape recorders or video cameras or anything… It kind of disrupts the energy and will keep me from being able to connect with the energies on the other side.” I thought to myself, “What? That doesn’t make sense, he’s holding a wireless microphone, that is emitting an RF signal, that is communicating with a receiver, that is plugged into a mixing board, that is connected to an amplifier, that is pushing it out to the speakers. If electronic equipment disrupts his abilities, then why is he using that setup?” That right there let me know what I was in for.
Also, the way his setup works is he calls on the people that he chooses based on what the energies on the other side tell him. Well, that seems darned convenient. Especially if the only people he calls on happen to be the people that he invites as plants. I don’t know that this was the case, but I didn’t know the people that he was calling on, so it could have been that way.
While he was doing his readings, his ‘hits’ (the number of right answers or times he can get the person to say ‘yes’) were not that great. It was not really like what we saw on the TV show, which of course is edited to reflect the best results. I went in with an honest skepticism to believe either way and I walked away understanding things quite a bit more clearly. I believe John Edward has his place as a very good entertainer. I don’t really think he psychic though… but I’m open to it.

LOL Too funny! Did you get a pic with him too? Just curious
Yes, I am very open to this kind of thing, because I really do want them to be right. But so far I’m not convinced. But it can be fun
John Edwards does seem to play on people’s emotions. People filled with grief are wanting relief any way they can get it. Sad times.
